Gale Woodhouse, the current Artist in Residence at the Vernon Community Arts Centre recommended I take a look at the work of Geoffrey Swindell – and oh my – can this guy glaze.  He makes a lot of small bottle/vessel forms and also teapots.  Check it out. Geoffrey’s son made a video about his dad and his work, its on utube.

define: wax resist

“Wax, either melted or as an emulsion which is applied to pottery to prevent slips or glazes from adhering at that point. Wax may be applied to either the raw or bisque ware, over or between two layers of glaze.”

Alright alright!  It is possible that I haven’t met all of the criteria.

Here is a little blurb and some instructions on inlaying glazes via wax resist by Ceramic Art Daily.

This fellow uses wax resist to preserve portions of his unfired clay pieces and works away some of the rest.

I’m not sure if this fellow is using wax resist – but looks like some kind of resist – possibly at a slip stage?  It is neato stuff anyway -and worth checking out.  I also like how he’s been experimenting with gold lustre.  oooo.

And because it is nice to have some pictures in the mix – and beacause I recently got some work out of the kiln at the community art centre – heres a photo or two of how I’ve been using wax resist to inlay glaze.
